Please note this is a special trial workshop to test the timings (and get your feedback) on this new workshop. The normal price of this workshop will be £195 per person. For this first trial workshop the price will be reduced to £125 per person. The date of the workshop is Tuesday 30th June.
This workshop is suitable for beginners, but it is also great fun for people with some experience. It is a little different to most of our workshops because you will learn both hand stitching and machine stitching. Everyone will make the same bucket bag design using lovely soft leathers and you can hand stitch on a matching or contrast pockets. The bag is a turned construction and the main body of the bag will be stitched on an industrial sewing machine (I am happy to help with any parts of the making if you would like help).
The course will begin with students learning the basic leather skills (or refreshing your memory of them) by firstly learning and practicing how to hand stitch leather. You will learn marking out, choosing appropriate leather, hand saddle stitching, machine stitching and edge finishing.
There will be a maximum of 4 people on a workshop, groups are kept small, with plenty of help available.
Course runs from 9.30am – 4.00pm (we may finish a little earlier or later). An individual packed lunch from our local tea rooms and tea and coffee included in the price. All leather and fittings are included in the price.
Things you will learn in this one day workshop:
Cutting out leather
Machine stitching
Hand Saddle Stitching
Constructing a turned bag
Cutting and making a strap
Riveting
Finish edges (burnishing)
Attaching a buckle
Please note the construction of this bag only works well in certain leathers, please see image attached of colour options. The straps need to be made from a firmer leather (which may be a slightly different colour) and the pockets can be made of any leather. The hair on hide leathers do not work for the main body of the bag but can be used for a pocket. Bag is approximately 22cm wide ×25cm high ×12cm deep.
PLEASE NOTE: All deposits and payments in full are strictly non-refundable and can not be exchanged to an alternative date within one month of the date of the workshop. If you would prefer a deposit please email: sarah@williamshandmade.com
