LEATHER MAKING WORKSHOPS IN HEREFORDSHIRE
Come and spend a creative day in the Williams Handmade workshop, learn the traditional craft of leatherwork and make something beautiful with your own hands.
Set in the Herefordshire countryside, our friendly leather workshops are designed for everyone — from complete beginners who have never worked with leather before to those who would like to develop their existing skills.
Led by Sarah Williams, you'll learn traditional leatherworking techniques in a relaxed, welcoming environment, with small group sizes allowing plenty of individual help and guidance.
Depending on the workshop you choose, you could make your own leather bag, belt, purse, passport cover, dog collar and lead, or a selection of smaller leather goods. You'll choose from our beautiful leathers, learn the techniques involved and experience the satisfaction of turning a piece of leather into something that's genuinely yours.
There is no need to bring any specialist equipment or have any previous experience — just come ready to learn, make and enjoy the day.
Choose from our one-day and two-day group workshops, shorter half-day workshops, or book a private leather workshop for two for a more personal experience.
Whether you're treating yourself, learning a new skill or looking for an unforgettable experience gift, we'd love to welcome you to Williams Handmade.

One Day Leather Bag Making Workshop
Spend a day learning the craft of leatherwork and leave with a beautiful leather bag handmade by you.
Join Sarah in the Williams Handmade studio in the Herefordshire countryside for a relaxed, creative day learning traditional leatherworking skills and making your very own leather bag from start to finish.
No previous leatherworking experience is needed. The workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those who have tried leatherwork before, and with a maximum of just five people, there is plenty of individual guidance throughout the day.
You’ll begin by learning the essential skills, including marking and cutting leather, traditional hand saddle stitching and edge finishing. Then it’s time to make your bag.
Choose from four designs — satchel, backpack, saddle bag or curve bag — before selecting from our range of leathers and creating your own colour combination. You can also personalise details such as your stitching and fittings, so the bag you take home will feel completely your own.
By the end of the day, you won't just have learnt a new craft — you'll leave carrying a leather bag that you made yourself.
What you'll learn
How to mark and cut leather
Traditional hand saddle stitching
How to construct a three-dimensional leather bag
Cutting and making a leather strap
Riveting
Edge finishing and burnishing
Attaching buckles and fittings
Your day
The workshop runs from 9:30am–5:00pm, with a break for lunch.
Your leather, fittings and materials are included, along with an individual packed lunch from our local tea rooms, plus tea and coffee throughout the day.
Workshops are limited to five people, keeping the atmosphere friendly and relaxed and allowing Sarah plenty of time to help each person with their individual bag.
Workshop price: £190 per person
You can choose an available workshop date when booking, or purchase the workshop as a gift and choose the date later.
If you would prefer to pay a £90 deposit, with the remaining £100 payable on the day, please contact Williams Handmade.
If you'd like to make a different bag design from those offered on the group workshop, our private or two-day workshops may be more suitable.
Please note: Workshop deposits and payments are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another date within one month of the booked workshop.
